Success, Stretch Goals, and How to Choose Your Pins?
over 3 years ago – Sun, Oct 11, 2020 at 11:20:34 PM

We funded - at over 700%!!!

Just wanted to say a quick thank you. We almost doubled the number of backers in the last 48 hours - that's 488 of you! Mo and I are busy working on designs, fleshing out Backerkit, and liaising with the manufacturer about our much bigger-than-expected purchase. You guys are amazing! Thanks!

New Designs!

The two stretch goals designs will be Necromancer (40%) and Gunslinger (35%)! Alchemist came in just behind at 30%, with Sidekick and Pugilist picking up the rear. We'll have some WIP designs for you asap :)

Choosing Your Pins

We've had a few folks asking questions about how to choose your pins. There's no rush - we're working on making the transition to Backerkit as smooth as possible. Next week (probably Tuesday) we'll send out a 'Backerkit survey'. Backerkit is an app we're using to help you tell us what pins you want.

Here's how it works. When you fill out the survey, you'll pick however many pins the tier you backed required. So that's 1, 5, or 14, for the Adventurer, Party, and Collector tiers respectively. If you pledged for more pins than in that tier, you then have 'additional credit' to spend in our 'add ons' store.

For example: Emily backed the Party tier (minimum of 5 pins for $40 + shipping) at $56 + shipping. When she opens her Backerkit survey, she is asked to choose pins #1-5. Once she does that she moves on to the add ons shop. Here, she can spend her leftover $16 on two more pins of her choice. Because she backed on the Party tier, each additional pin is $8.

If Emily decides she also wants the new Necromancer pin, cos it's dope af, she can add that to her cart, and pay the extra $8 by card.

If you backed at a lower tier, we'll have a way for you to move up tiers, to take advantage of the discounted rates.

Late Backers

If you missed the KS - don't worry. When Backerkit opens, we'll be accepting 'pre-orders' for a limited time.

That's all for now,

If you have any questions, please let us know in a reply to this update.

Thanks!

$25k Stretch Goal and What's Next (Backerkit!)
over 3 years ago – Thu, Oct 08, 2020 at 12:57:32 AM

2 Stretch Goals in a Day?

Y'all are crazy. Crazy! Thank you so much :) Because of how close we are to the end of the KS we're going to take the top 2 picks from the latest vote, closing when the KS closes tomorrow! Click here to have your say :)

While Mo gets on with the designs, I'll be finishing up the Backerkit page, which is the perfect segway into...

What's Next & Backerkit

A few of you have been asking - "how do I choose my pins?"  This is where Backerkit ('BK') comes in. In 1-2 weeks we'll send out 'surveys'. These surveys will have you create a BK account and link it to your Kickstarter ('KS') account. Then, whatever you pledged on KS appears as credit on BK. You use this credit to choose the pins you want

Let's take the example of Annie who's backed the party tier at $47 ($40 for the pin, $7 for shipping). When Annie logs onto BK, she'll see $47 credit. At her tier, each pin is $8. So, she chooses 5 pins - she can mix and match designs as she likes, spending $40 of her credit. BK calculates shipping (which in Annie's case is $7), and voila, her $47 credit is used up!

But Annie really likes the new Necromancer pin, too. She adds that to her basket - bring her total to $54, over her credit. No worries! She can pay the difference on BK and get her extra pin. Yay!

Let's talk about John. John wanted all 14 pins but only backed at the $9 Adventure tier. He wanted to upgrade but he forgot. No worries! When you get your survey you can increase your pledge! Now John can get each pin at the Collector tier price of $7/pin instead of the Adventure tier price of $9/pin.

Shipping.

We've set up BK so that it calculates shipping. Because of how weight is calculated, the shipping might be $1-2 higher than what you pledged on KS for the Collector tier for some international locations.  The lowest tiers should be unaffected.

Once the surveys are out, we'd really love it if you could fill them out ASAP so we can order these pins and hopefully get them to you for Christmas. There's no guarantee, especially with COVID, but we're gona try our hardest!

You guys are fabulous,

We love you,

Max (and Mo!)

Well we didn't expect that. Y'all are crazy! $20k goal reached - vote time

$20k Goal - Smashed!

So we did a little thank you post on reddit and... it has gotten a lot of attention. With 24 hours to go we've shot through the $20k barrier. So - it's vote time! We've selected a shortlist of your ideas that we think will make really cool designs:

  • Gunslinger
  • Sidekick
  • Pugilist
  • Alchemist
  • Necromancer

Click here to access the vote (one per backer); pick your top choice!

Our Friends at The Token Vault

Our friends Ryan and Kieran have made a token creation tool. You can customise everything: armour, weapons, clothes, hair, skin colour etc. In this VTT-led D&D resurgence, it's the perfect tool for creating a visual world full of variety. The other thing I love is that they're supporting other artists, and giving them a route to get themselves paid!

The Kickstarter is funded, the tool is made, and they're currently offering packages of fully customisable tokens at crazy good prices, via the KS. If you use Roll20, Foundry, or another VTT, I would highly recommend them. Full disclosure: we don't get anything from promoting them beyond virtual, socially-distance high-fives. We just think they're cool :)

That's all for now!

Blood Hunter Design Preview!
over 3 years ago – Tue, Oct 06, 2020 at 08:00:11 PM

Blood Hunter Design

We won't beat around the bush folks, here it is: the blood hunter!

Remember, this is a preview; things look a little different in enamel!

The Boon! We're still working on the boon details, but it'll likely relate to the blood hunter's blood maledict. As always, we're trying to find something low level, that adds utility without a direct increase in power. Our first thought was to let the brooch bleed instead of the character, letting you avoid damage from your augmented blood curse once per rest. But that was a little boring, didn't add utility, and was just a power increase in that it saved you some hit points.

Now we're looking at letting you attach a blood curse to the brooch, expanding your repertoire:

"If you have at least 1 level in blood hunter then, while you wear this brooch, you gain the ‘Hemomancer’ feature.

Hemomancer. When you finish a long rest, you can perform a short ritual, bathing this brooch in blood. Choose a blood curse which you do not already know;  you attach this blood curse to the brooch. You can invoke this blood curse as you normally would. Once you invoke the attached curse, you can't do so again until you finish a long rest."

Deck of Stories

So our friends at critical dice/1985 games have a Kickstarter going at the moment for a cool tool to make storytelling and being a GM easier. It's a deck of cards that can act as adventure hooks, letting you plot out arcs for one-shots, or come up with an idea on-the-fly when you haven't planned your next session but the paladin did a critical smite on your adult green dragon and you've nothing left but seared dragon steak. AND they have booster packs full of pre-made NPCs with beautiful illustrations, and tips on how to roleplay them.

Tapping this will take you to their Kickstarter where you can watch the video!

My favourite bit, which I shall almost definitely use in my home games, is the ORC storytelling system. It stands for 'Origin, Rising, Climactic' and helps give your story arc that wholesome, complete feeling.

So, if you're looking for a little bardic inspiration in your next game, check out the Deck of Stories here :)

Thanks, folks. Just 2 days to go!!

Max (and Mo!)

And the winner of vote #1 is... Bloodhunter!
over 3 years ago – Thu, Oct 01, 2020 at 04:47:59 AM

The next pin design will be the bloodhunter (provided Mr. Mercer is cool with this 😅) ! The full rankings are:

1. Bloodhunter

2. Familiars

3. Gunslinger

4. Commoner

5. Pugilist... poor pugilist.

Mo is working on the design, which we should have for you in the next few days. We're also heading towards our next stretch goal: $20k. We're going to scrap the least popular designs from the shortlist (commoner and pugilist) and keep familiars and gunslinger.

Hence, we have 3 more designs to add for our next vote. Keep those suggestions coming!

Thanks,

Max (and Mo!)
